What Is EyeSight?
Subaru EyeSight is a driver assist technology that runs silently in the background while you drive to Brookfield Park, without the need to initiate it every time you get in your car. It acts as an attentive co-pilot, helping boost your reaction time and alerting you if you zone out behind the wheel. The system has been a flagship Subaru safety feature for years, and the 2026 model year brings a significant generational leap.
How Does the Hardware Work?
The biggest change in the 2026 version is that the system now uses three forward-facing cameras plus radar sensors, rather than just cameras alone. This matters because cameras have limits in heavy rain, fog, or snow, they can struggle, while radar is largely unaffected by poor visibility. Having both systems working together gives the car a much better understanding of its surroundings. The cameras stay tucked away near the rearview mirror to keep your view clear while doing their essential work. The addition of a third camera expands the field of vision further, making a real difference in detecting pedestrians and cyclists who might cross your path unexpectedly on your way to Lake Accotink Park.
What Features Does EyeSight Include?
The 2026 EyeSight 4.0 system consists of 11 safety functions that work concurrently to protect and assist you in all kinds of traffic, from bumper-to-bumper Springfield driving to open highway cruising. The Pre-Collision Braking automatically applies the brakes to help avoid or lessen a crash. Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering keeps a safe following distance from the car ahead and helps you stay centered in your lane. There’s also Reverse Automatic Braking, which detects objects or vehicles behind you when driving in reverse and applies the brakes if necessary. Lastly, the DriverFocus System uses facial recognition to catch sleepiness or distraction and gently reminds you to focus, or lets you know it's time for a break. On select higher trims, EyeSight enables hands-free highway driving. On designated highways with clear lane markings, you activate advanced cruise control and lane centering, and the system takes over steering and speed management. If it detects you're not paying attention, it warns you to take over. If you don't respond, the system can automatically slow the car and move it toward the shoulder.
Which 2026 Subaru Models Have EyeSight?
Most 2026 Subaru models come with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard equipment, including the Forester, Outback, Ascent, Crosstrek, Legacy, and Impreza. Some base trims may offer it as an optional feature depending on configuration. The WRX also includes EyeSight as standard across all trims. The all-electric Solterra likewise carries the system.
